When we announced the kick off for the Fairing Way Community Garden last spring, little did we know how many residents would sign up for a garden plot. I took a walk through the gardens the other day, and was amazed by the wide variety of flowers, herbs and vegetables growing there. In just a few short months, the tomatoes are starting to ripen, the zucchini has taken over one resident’s plot, and judging from the amount of basil I saw, there’s going to be a lot of pesto dinners in their future. Although most of our residents were more than happy to give up the burden of yard maintenance at their former residences, they have retained the one outdoor project that is pure pleasure - gardening! And our community is all the more beautiful for it.
Author Hallie Ephron (yes, of the author/screenwriter Ephron family) stopped by to give a talk about her latest mystery, You’ll Never Know Dear. Her tale of a doll that goes missing and suddenly reappears some forty years later, is set in the South Carolina low country. Hallie gave a reading from the book, and led a lively question and answer session. Nothing like a good mystery to curl up with on a summer afternoon!
Wood Fired Pizza
The Fiamma Bella Wood Fired Food Truck stopped by on a recent Sunday evening, offering both old favorites (cheese, pepperoni), along with some unique new combinations: duck & cherry, beef brisket, and even a cinnamon apple dessert pizza. It was a beautiful night to enjoy dining on wood fired pizza al fresco, on the patio.
