As in the past, December was a time for both charity and celebration! We held our second annual Wreath Relief charity event, where we auctioned off Holiday wreaths decorated by a variety of businesses, neighbors, Fairing Way residents and staff. This year's beneficiary was the Dwyer Home Resident Fund, designed to help long term care residents without family. Here's a sampling of the creative wreaths from the festive event:
The members of our Outreach Group lead the philanthropic efforts at Fairing Way and have inspired other residents to join them in giving back to the community. The group's 10 members, which include Janet Murphy; Barbara Murphy; Ina Jones; and Harriet Toriano, meet regularly to come up with new initiatives for helping the community and engaging other residents in the process. Some of the groups recent charitable successes include a November Food Pantry Drive, Knitting for the Needy- making hats and scarves for local schoolchildren, the Coop's Troops Holiday Toy Drive, and the Giving Tree, which provided gifts to residents in our skilled nursing facility, the Dwyer Home.
Our Holiday celebrations included an Ugly Sweater Party and our Holiday Dinner Party...and we DO know how to have a good time!
